Editorial and Publishing System Functional Analysis
Regardless of whether the intention is to buy or build an editorial or publishing system, or both, it is very important to first define the requirements. It is a mistake, for example, to review commercial products as the first step, and thereby allow vendors to suggest functional requirements are a close or exact match to the capabilities of their products, rather than recognise and deal with the actual requirements.
Functional Analysis involves:
- interviews with potential users of the new system
- interviews with stakeholders that focus on the business benefits of implementation
- workshops to review and finalise functional requirements
- development of a detailed functional specification, including prioritisation of requirements and statements of any significant system constraints
