Java is a modern, platform-independent language that has matured over almost a decade. It is now most commonly used to create back-end systems and JSP-based Web sites, but can also be used to produce platform-independent client applications.
The Podium application was developed using Java, so that it could be easily deployed on Macintosh, UNIX and Windows systems (or even on networks that include a mixture of these platforms).
The KalphaX application uses a Java tool to create multiple Web pages from the output of the XSLT process that converts XML documents into a single HTML output file (XSLT version 1 cannot be used to write multiple output files, and it is too early to adopt XSLT 2 because there is not yet wide support for this version).
